Sight Seeing

Sight Seeing in Oahu

This is a statue of King Kamehameha,  Hawaii 5-0 fans will recognize this statue.

Iolani Palace is the only Royal Palace that is now part of the United States.   This Palace is open to the public for tours and is located right across the street from the statue of King Kamehameha.

  1. The Statue of King Kamehameha stands in front of Aliiolani Hale.
Aliʻiōlani Hale is a building located in downtown Honolulu, Hawaiʻi, currently used as the home of the Hawaiʻi State Supreme Court. It is the former seat of government of the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi and the Republic of Hawaiʻi.

Visiting Kuoloa Ranch

This is a famous stump used in the movie Jurassic Park.

Me, Sharon Johnson and Mary Lou Erickson visiting Kualoa Ranch.

One of the beautiful views.

Some of the interesting mountains on the ranch.

This was our sight seeing bus.

This big life size picture is on the wall of a bunker used in the filming of the TV Show "Lost."  This is a picture of the cast of "Lost."

Another beautiful view.

This small island is called "Chinaman's Hat."

This small island resembles a turtle.

Another view of "Chinaman's Hat."

Kualoa Ranch is a great picture taking spot.

The entrance to Kualoa Ranch.

Visiting the Macadamia Nut Farm

This was our cute guide pointing out different types of vegetation.

Demonstration of blowing a conch shell.  It sounds like a horn.

Our guide showing us how they make fire.

Lighting the fire knife.

Twirling the fire knife.

Husking the coconut.

Showing us the "face" on a coconut.

They gave us each a headband made of coconut leaves with a real flower on it.
Me, Mary Lou Erickson and Sharon Johnson.

This is the large fishing pond where the ancient Hawaiians caught their food.

Our boat ride on the large fishing pond.  There were some beautiful views there too.

Another view, from the Macadamia Nut Farm, of the same island shaped like a turtle.

Queen Emma's Summer Palace

This is Queen Emma's summer Palace.  The Daughters of Hawaii have preserved it and many of the antiques that were in this Summer Palace.  They gave us an informative and interesting guided tour explaining the history of the royal family and the antique furnishings.

These are Ti Leaves like the ones I use to make Ti Leaf Skirts.

This is my first Ti Leaf Skirt that I tied.  The hula dancers in the Aloha Luau dance wearing these fresh Ti Leaf skirts.

This is the beautiful Laie Hawaii Temple.

The view from the Temple out down to the ocean a few blocks away.

This is a sunset at Sunset Beach in the summer.  Notice that there are no waves at all.

This is a picture taken during the winter not far from where the previous sunset picture was taken.  Who knew that there could be such a difference in the waves between winter and summer?

More Family Comes to Visit

KC, Laura and Family Come to Visit
May 17, 2014

Visiting the USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor was our first thing to do together.

KC, Tally, Savannah and Laura.

Enjoying the boat ride back to the Pearl Harbor Memorial.

We only had one shot at it but we were lucky and found this sleepy turtle waiting on the beach for us.

Visiting the Laie Hawaii Temple grounds on Sunday afternoon.

A better view of the Temple in the background.

This wonderful old tree is behind the Temple.

What a cute family.

The girls were given the headbands for going up and dancing to the music before the show started at the Tonga village.  They were a big hit with the crowd.

The tree climber in the Samoan Village show.

At the Aloha Luau.

With the roasted Kailua Pig, straight from the Imu. (Underground cooking pit.)

Tally climbing the coconut tree all by herself.

Savannah climbing the coconut tree with a little help from Dad.
